This was the best Riad's we stayed in.  Loved it.
Many Riad's by design are dark, with little available open spaces. NOT THIS one.  You enter through a long dark entrance and as you turn the corner the light just floods in throughout the space.
Even our room had a window opening to a courtyard.  Design is lovely, modern with glass and marble but pulling in older features.  It was such a lovely space to be in that we spent time there, not just a place to sleep.  There was plenty of areas to sit, in the sun or shade, read a book or just relax. Breakfast is served, not a buffet, and we had lunch and dinner in the lovely dinning room, prices were reasonable.  There is a pool, small but very clean and cool with places to sit as well as a roof terrace.  Tried the Spa for a reflexology treatment and therapist was good. Room had all the things you would expect of a 5*.  Staff were great, service excellent, and easy access to the airport.  It is in a slightly upmarket area of Marrakesh, still with narrow streets  and plenty of places to eat within a 5 minute walk (we used Google nearby and found it good for restaurants).  About a 20 minute walk to the Bahia Palace and Jemaa el-Fnaa, as well as the park and La Mamounia. If  you are going to Jardin Majorelle, take a taxi and it really is worth a visit. Book on their website for best price and go early in the morning. Taxis are plentiful, average price is £5, but negotiate, they will ask 100 offer 50.

The Airport is clean modern with a good selection of shops and areas to sit (go upstairs).  On arrival it only took us 40 minutes from landing to pick up our luggage, clear immigration,  use the cash machine and get to the taxi stand.  We booked a taxi with booking.com which did not turn up, but there was a taxi stand, plenty available and there was a set price of 14 euros.  In our Riad within an hour of landing. There were some queues on the way back, but nothing as bad as Edinburgh.
I really liked Marrakesh, the people are nice,  happy to have tourists, the food was great, atmosphere fabulous....I will be back and this will be my Riad of choice

Lovely Riad - great stay

From start to finish we had the best experience at Villa Makassar. A beautiful tranquil Riad amidst the hustle and bustle outside!! The room, staff, facilities were 5 star. Lovely pool to cool off in after a busy day in the Souks. The Rooftop area was perfect for chilling out after a busy day. I cannot fault anything and would say look no further as this is the perfect place to stay! The staff were amazing and even made us some lovely tuna sandwiches to take to the airport for the way home! Thanks for the most amazing stay, we will be back!!

Best Riad in Marrakech

My wife and I have just returned from a fantastic four night stay in Marrakech at Villa Makassar (6th to 10th May), where we celebrated  my wife’s 40th birthday, and we will definitely make this our first choice, should we visit Marrakech in the future.

The location is perfect to access all the major tourist attractions on foot, but also far enough away to escape the hustle and bustle of the city. Hotel Makassar is located down a quiet side street within the casbah, and it is worth noting that taxis cannot access the hotel directly, and they will drop you a very short walk away from the entrance. This was not a problem for us.

The hotel staff are all friendly and helpful, and in my opinion they are Villa Makassars finest asset!

The grounds are clean, tidy and welcoming, and decorated beautifully. 

Our bedroom (Number 3), was nicely presented, smelled fantastic, and was cleaned daily. Coffee and bottled water were also replenished by the staff on a daily basis.

Breakfast was fantastic every day. Breakfast typically included fresh fruit, yoghurt, pastries and cakes, and fresh bread with a variety of spreads and cold cut meats. This was washed down with fresh coffee and freshly squeezed fruit juices. Cheese omelettes were also prepared on request. There was enough food that we never needed to eat lunch when out and about exploring the city.

We ate dinner in the restaurant twice during our stay. Prices are reasonable, and although the offerings on the menu are fairly limited, the food we tried on both visits were all delicious. Wine and cocktails are also of a good standard. There is a pianist performing in the restaurant daily during evening hours which is a nice touch.

The rooftop terrace was perfect for spending hours in the afternoon sun or shade, and there is also a jacuzzi (not hot!) for taking a dip in to cool off, and the temperature was perfect for this purpose.

Finally, on our last day we visited the hammam, where my wife and I both enjoyed a full body massage and private use of the indoor jacuzzi and spa for two and a half hours. This was a fantastic way to relax and round off our trip before returning home.

Villa Makassar fulfilled all of our expectations, and we will definitely stay here again when visiting Marrakech.

Fantastic stay at Villa Makassar

Wonderful.  Peaceful. Large, comfortable rooms without sacrificing authenticity. The staff is so warm and helpful. Great location. Easy walk to the major sites and 400m from local food gems, yet super quiet. I’m near the end of a 2 month trip round-the-world journey and this is my favorite hotel.  The quiet rooftop lounge is so relaxing that I took a two hour nap.  It felt like home quality rest.
To top it off, when I mentioned a terrific veg filled pastry from breakfast as I checked out- Samira brought me two more for the road.  So thoughtful!

Stay here. Peaceful, friendly and great location.

Well this place is mesmerising , clean , beautiful and very comfortable .
We stayed at the Sofitel the week before and we rate this so much more , the staff are ALL incredible people , kind and going out of their way to make our stay special and comfortable but not just for us for everyone so there was no preference to where you are from everyone is treated the same and with kindness and respect. 
They always ask if you’re ok , and we were particularly touched when we came home one evening and Samira said welcome home , and it really did feel like home ! Would highly recommend and would only stay here now when we come to Marrakesh !
The food and restaurant is incredible and again you are treated so well and made to feel so welcome and nothing is too much trouble , I cannot rate this stay enough if there were more stars I would give more , thank you for welcoming us so beautifully and for making our stay so special , we had a bad stay last time and left with not a good memory of Marrakesh but you have certainly changed our minds on that , we will see you soon !
